Do I need to supply a credit card?

Prior to hire, a debit or credit card will be required in case of liabilities. We do not require a bond, unlike other rental vehicle agencies.

Fleet
Can other people drive the car or is there an additional cost?

Anybody can drive the replacement vehicle at no extra cost as long as they meet the age and driving licence requirements, just like your own car. As the renter, it is your responsibility to ensure any other drivers meet these requirements, which include being over the age of 21 and having a valid driver’s licence (as opposed to a probationary licence).

Fleet
Where can I drive the rental car?

Just like in your own car, there are no kilometre restrictions in an Asset Rentals vehicle. Note that the vehicle can’t be driven:

  • Off-road or on 4WD tracks
  • On race tracks
  • On flood plains
  • On beaches
  • Above the snow line

Breaching this will void the rental insurance and make you liable for the full damage costs.

Fleet
Are the vehicles insured?

Yes, our vehicles are fully insured with a standard reduced excess of $1,500 on all vehicles (or $2,500 if you are aged between 21 and 25 years old).

The excess is payable if you are involved in an accident or if you damage our vehicle. You may be refunded if the accident is not your fault and if Asset Rentals can recover the full damage costs from the other party.

Fleet
How long can I keep the vehicle for?

If your vehicle is repairable, can keep the replacement vehicle for the duration of repairs. We’ll monitor the repairs and ensure the repairer is as efficient as possible.

If your vehicle is a total loss, you’ll need to discuss this with the insurer but generally, you can keep the replacement vehicle until you receive your settlement cheque or in 21 days, whichever comes first. In some circumstances, we’ll extend the hire car period with approval.

Fleet
What happens if you don’t have a like-for-like vehicle available?

If for some reason we don’t have an equivalent vehicle to the one involved in the not-at-fault accident, we will explore alternatives with you and ensure we find a replacement that is suitable for you and your needs.

Fleet
Are pets allowed in your rental vehicles?

We don’t allow pets in any of our rental vehicles (except assistance animals). You may be charged for a deep clean should the vehicle interior need vacuuming, sanitising and steam cleaning for allergen purposes.

Fleet
Do you rent cars all over Australia?

Unfortunately, we only supply rental cars to residents and businesses based in Victoria.

Fleet
Are there any vehicles you don’t supply?

At this stage, we don’t have the following vehicles in our fleet:

  • Two-tonne vans
  • Trucks
  • Motorbikes
  • Accessibility/mobility vehicles
  • Fully electric vehicles (we do provide hybrids)
Fleet
Do you offer free pick-up and drop-off?

Depending on your requirements and the number of corporate cars you need, we can generally provide a free drop-off and pick-up service to businesses around Melbourne. This added convenience means you can get on with your day knowing your vehicles will be delivered at a time and place that suits you.

Corporate rental
What are the benefits of using Asset Rentals for corporate car rental?

The biggest advantage of Asset Rentals is that we offer flexible car rental solutions that can meet a range of corporate and commercial needs. We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all policy; instead, we work on a case-by-case basis so that the package we develop is the best solution for you. We also offer very competitive rates, as well as maintenance and servicing on all fleet vehicles.

Corporate rental
How long can you hire a car for?

Our car rental packages are tailored to your requirements, so whether you need a car or fleet of vehicles for two weeks or two months, we’ve got you covered. We’ll discuss your needs in more detail during our initial discussion and build a package that works for you.

Corporate rental
When will I get my replacement car?

Once your rental is approved by our team, we will deliver the replacement vehicle in a timely matter to a convenient location near you.

What happens if the driver does not admit fault?

In order to provide you with a replacement vehicle, we must be able to confirm that the other driver is at fault. If you have their details, we can contact their insurance provider on your behalf to check liability.

Accident replacement vehicles
Should I contact my insurance company if I am not at fault?

There’s no need to contact your insurance company after a not-at-fault accident. Your rental car supplier will handle everything on your behalf. Asset Rentals, for example, has a dedicated third-party agency that will liaise with the at-fault party’s insurer to recover vehicle rental costs, saving you time, money, and headaches.

Who pays for a hire car after an accident in Australia?

If it can be proven that someone was at fault, then the at-fault driver’s insurer will cover the cost of the replacement vehicle if you rent from a reputable credit hire company, such as Asset Rentals.

Accident replacement vehicles
What is a like-for-like vehicle?

A like-for-like vehicle is equivalent to your vehicle that was involved in the not-at-fault accident and is based on size and utility. If, for some reason, we don’t have something similar available, we’ll discuss alternatives with you to ensure the alternative replacement car suits your needs.

Accident replacement vehicles
How do I know if I’m eligible for an accident replacement car?

You must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for a replacement car:

  • You must hold a valid Australian driving licence.
  • In most cases, your car must be in a repairable condition (not written off).
  • You need to provide details of the person who hit you.
  • The at-fault party needs to have insurance.
  • We’ll need a claim number which is generated after the at-fault party makes a claim with their insurer.

You can check your eligibility by applying for a vehicle here.

Accident replacement vehicles
How are the replacement vehicles free?

As per Australian law, any not-at-fault driver involved in a collision is entitled to an accident replacement vehicle at no cost to you. While you are initially liable for the replacement vehicle costs, Asset Rentals will attempt to recover your rental charges for the period of the repairs from the at-fault party.

To successfully recover costs, you must meet your obligations of the rental, which include being open, honest, and providing assistance with any legal proceedings (if applicable). You will then be released from liability for the rental costs and/or legal fees associated with the not-at-fault rental recovery.

The only costs you’ll have to cover include vehicle use costs, such as fuel, toll charges, and infringements. If the vehicle is returned in an unsatisfactory condition, you may also have to pay any cleaning or damage charges.

Accident replacement vehicles
What is your hire car in policy?

If you are at fault in the accident and have replacement vehicle cover in your insurance policy, we can usually claim all of the costs from your insurer on your behalf. We’ll just need a copy of the policy to get started.

General
If I have an accident and don’t have insurance, am I still entitled to a rental car?

Provided the accident was not your fault, you are legally entitled under Australian law to a like-for-like replacement car, even if you’re not insured. You can check your eligibility by applying for a vehicle here.

General
Will the at-fault driver pay for my replacement car after an accident?

If you’ve had a not-at-fault accident, you’ll receive an accident replacement car at no cost to you (exceptions include things like fuel, tolls, and any vehicle damage). While you remain liable for the hire car invoice, we’ll attempt to recover the rental charges from the at-fault party once your own car has been repaired. You’ll be released from liability for the rental costs and any legal fees associated with the not-at-fault rental provided you meet your obligations outlined in the rental agreement. In some cases, this may include assisting in the recovery process, providing items such as witness statements and briefly appearing in court.
